Background information
Thermal assessment of iTherm® Core for automotive steering wheel housing was made during operation using an IR camera. Pictures on the left side show temperature at core surface (a) at cycle finish and (b) before the start of a new cycle.
Improvements with iTherm® Core
Temperature decrease
The core surface temperature is around 100oC lower compared to the surface temperature of the conventional die core (IR pictures on the right side).
In addition to the considerable influence on cycle time (a 20% improvement), there was an important influence on part quality.
